Telehealth
The goal of virtual sessions is to mimic a typical treatment session. Sessions can be anywhere from 30-60 minutes in length. Your occupational therapist will send you an email reminder with a checklist prior to the session. The therapist will also send a schedule in advance that goes over what the session will cover and what you should plan to have available (markers, paper, etc.) so that you and your child are set up for success. Telehealth occurs on a HIPAA compliant platform. The therapist will create a meeting and send you a link that you can use to join.
Do parents need to be present?
It depends on the age of your child! For toddlers it is helpful to have a caregiver present to help facilitate activities. I often tell parents “you will be my hands and I will be the voice” and we work together as a team. With school aged children (5+) it is expected for them to be able to engage in telehealth with limited to no adult support.
What do I need to use for telehealth?
Virtual sessions can take place on a laptop, desktop, iPhone/iPad or tablet for viewing. You will need to have a charged device with internet connection.
